SUNDAY SCHOOL 2009-2010:

Our theme for Sunday school this year is

"Let your light shine" from Matthew 5: 16a.

During the year, we hope to feature the

many gifts that our Sunday School students

and adult members have.

We believe that the spiritual roots nurtured in our children will

help them with the difficulties and challenges in today’s world.

We believe the freeing power of God’s love strengthens their

abilities to fly with confidence in God’s abiding presence & grace.

Each Sunday morning at 9:30 AM the Sunday School children meet in the sanctuary

for opening worship. There they learn songs and hear a devotion that is designed

for them. Then they all head downstairs to the Sunday School rooms with their

teachers to learn a fun and easy-to-understand lesson. There are approximately

120 students enrolled in Sunday School, an average attendance of 70 students

every week.

The focus of the Sunday School staff, ministers, and superintendents is to support the spiritual journey of the students. We try to stress the values we learn from the

Bible in age appropriate ways for each class. The focus is on teaching the children how to relate the Bible to their every day life and how to use it to live the morals God

set for them.

The students are also taught how living those values can establish a close

and loving relationship with God. They apply these lessons through mission

projects that they do as a whole each year. They have been involved in the
Heifer Project, donating animals to communities in the U.S. and abroad,

they were involved in aiding victims of the Tsunami by collecting bathroom

toiletries, making kits to send to the affected areas, and this year they
were able to donate money they raised to a village in Africa. They learned

how their donation was used to build a well for that community.

Besides mission projects and classroom study, they children learn the

message of God through song. The songs they sing during the opening in

the sanctuary are songs they sing to the congregation on the third Sunday

of every month at the 11:00 AM service.

Sunday School begins in September with Rally Day sign ups and runs

through the beginning of June. There is no Sunday School during the

summer months, however there is a week long Vacation Bible School held

every summer.

Vacation Bible School is held a few hours each day for one week. Each year

there is a different theme but the focus is always on connecting with God

and learning His teachings.

During the summer, when we do not have Sunday School, we host a

week-long Vacation Bible School.  The dates and times for VBS will be

posted in the spring .
